If you told me years ago that I’d own a beautiful skin & brow studio in the heart of New York City, helping people feel their absolute best through skin, brows, and laser, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.
But looking back now, it’s clear this was always meant to be.
How it all started
My name is Maddie, I’m a licensed esthetician, brow artist, and skin specialist, but more importantly, I’m someone who believes beauty is about so much more than looks. Beauty has always been a part of me. I was the friend who did everyone’s hair and makeup, the one people called for help before a party or big event. That love for beauty started long before I stepped into a spa, it was woven into my life growing up.
Every weekend, I’d watch my grandma and mom set their hair in rollers, doing their weekly maintenance like a ritual. They always took pride in caring for their skin, and they taught me from middle school how to properly care for mine. That’s really where my obsession began, not with products or trends, but with the simple, joyful act of taking care of yourself.
The pivot and the hustle
My journey into the beauty industry started behind the front desk at some of NYC’s top spas. I was the person answering phones, booking appointments, juggling schedules and making sure every guest felt special. I loved it, not because it was glamorous, but because I got to witness transformations. I saw firsthand how a single facial or perfectly shaped brows could change how someone carried themselves.
Still, there was a part of me that wanted to be the one creating that change. After college, I did what seemed safe: I tried the corporate route, working in real estate. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t my calling. When the pandemic hit, it forced me to slow down and ask myself what I really wanted.
The answer was clear: I wanted to be an esthetician. I wanted to give people the kind of honest, caring, expert treatments I always admired.
So I went for it. I enrolled at Christine Valmy, got licensed, stacked certifications in everything from corrective skincare to brows to laser, and spent years working two jobs, sacrificing nights out, building my skills at places like Benefit, Heyday, Lifetime and Sephora. It wasn’t always easy. In fact, it rarely was. But every long day brought me closer to this dream.

WHY LUMINA?
Lumina Skin & Brows is my heart in studio form.
I chose the name Lumina because it means “light” and that’s what I hope every client leaves with. Not just brighter skin or beautifully done brows, but a real, inner light that comes from confidence and being cared for.
Here, it’s not about chasing some unrealistic standard. It’s about nurturing your natural beauty, enhancing what’s already there, and helping you feel like the best version of yourself, whether that’s through a custom facial, natural brow art, or skin corrective treatments that gives you the freedom of smooth, carefree skin.
I’ve worked in a lot of places. Some felt rushed, some felt cold, some were focused only on the sale.
I wanted Lumina to be the opposite. I designed every detail to be personal and welcoming. When you walk into my studio, I want you to feel safe, seen, and genuinely excited to invest in yourself. I want you to know I’m listening to your goals, your concerns, your lifestyle. I’ll never recommend something that’s not right for you, and I’ll always take the time to explain why I’m doing what I’m doing. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about skin, and brows. It’s about giving you a glow that’s more than what shows up in the mirror, a glow that comes from confidence, trust, and feeling completely cared for.
